By the way; thank you all for your input.
There were a lot of arguments each way, but I have decided not to use the existing crankshaft as there is too much doubt about its safety and I would be too frightened to use it in anger.
I have been looking at my options and Dave K mentioned Coventry Metal and Boring. My original crank has pitting in the scroll seal area

I had previously been told that it was not repairable. I didn?t want to get it ground down for a modified seal and I thought leaving it as it was would damage the rope seal.
Anyway, having looked at my options I contacted CMB who have told me that they think they can repair it but all in including crack testing, welding and machining, recreating the scroll and regrinding the journals would be about ?500 plus VAT.
SNG http://www.sngbarratt.com/ProductDetail ... 0eb9ee&l=7 do a new crank for ?690.
I phoned them and found out that it is not a genuine Jaguar crank, but it is British made. I do have a set of +10thou bearings and a standard size set, so this is not a deciding factor.
Two questions: which option would you choose and has anyone else bought one of these cranks and have an opinion on it.
Thanks,
Paul
