Rear brake swap.

I remember reading some time ago that it is possible (assuming the same hole spacing) to fit factory fit s2 rear brakes to a s1 diff without any mods.

Can someone tell me if this is correct and are there any clearance problems.

They will fit a 4.2 with the ears that are attached to the diff, my 3.8 never had the ears so I bought some second hand and fitted them to my diff.
I don't know when the ears were fitted to the diff so you need to check whether your has them, if it does you are good to go.

I bought mine a couple of years ago for ?60.

Hi Lyons,

You don?t say what year Series One you have. Dave has mentioned the 3.8 which appears to be slightly different from my 65 4.2, which has a separate bolt on ?C? bracket to mount the caliper.

Later diffs have the mounting lugs cast in.

I don?t know how readily available the Series Two calipers are, but I fitted the later XJ6 ones.
The bolt spacings are the same as the Series One, but the Series Two mounting bolts are longer. The area around the mountings on the XJ6 is much meatier and required some easing to fit around the diff.
The pictures in this link show you the way the caliper bolt mountings are cut away on the actual Series Two calipers.
