#1 Battery Cube Fuses

Post by ALAN COCHRANE » Thu May 21, 2015 5:56 pm

Hi Everyone

I'm in the process of replacing my GT6's fuse box with a modern 16 way unit. As with most jobs this has turned into a bit of a "right said Fred" job.
I wasn't overwhelmed with the thought of all the battery/starter motor /alternator unfused wiring and started to do a bit of internet trawling.
I came across these:-

Has anyone fitted them before?

In order to size the fuse correctly, I used a digital DC clamp meter attached around the E-Types positive battery lead. I cranked the engine and the readings momentarily shot up to 290A and then settled settled back down to 155A. This seemed high for a high torque starter that's only rated at 1kW but the digital meter doesn't lie. So I need a 200A fuse for the battery post.
Interestingly apart from the starter the heater fan drew the most current-21A. Admittedly this is an upgraded unit.
I intend to do this check on the Triumph in order to fuse the individual circuits as accurately as possible.
I thought this would be of interest to the Forum.

Cheers

Alan
