#1 brake pedal "kick back"

Post by rolando38 » Wed Jun 03, 2015 7:41 pm

Hi

my first run with the car was successful, despite a strange sensation when braking:
it(s very efficient , but I've got a kind of "kick back" in the pedal, as if the brake fluid was "bouncing back" after first pressure

did you ever had that feeling and know how to solve it ?

thanks

Rolando,
You have serviced the servo, correct?
Then it is a wrongly positioned spring.
See here:

Bonne chance!

thanks !
I did'nt touch the servo
but I always thaught the kickback was normal when starting the car (and even a good sign of functional servo) but in my case I have both a kickback when starting AND when braking on the road
any pics ?

Rolando,
Unfortunately I don't have any picture, missed taking some when I suffered from the same and fixed it.
To be clearer, this is coming from a wrong assembly in the slave cylinder (=the one connected to the servo, called the remote servo in the wsm).
Do you have the wsm on hand? Look in the brakes chapter the drawing LY.s.6, it is the part nr 22 (piston) which contains a spring and a retaining pin. The pin should be in front of the spring and not behind.
I will try to find the notice that I had received with the overhaul kit which had a more detailed drawing.
If you did not overhaul this slave cylinder yourself recently, it would be better that your order a repair kit and seize this opportunity to do the needful.

Rolando, took a pic for you from the assembly note that comes with the repair kit, which is more detailed than the manual.
It is the Pin 38 (illustration 8) which has to be ahead of the spring and not behind.
If it is behind, the brakes work but you get the kickback!
Took me sometime to figure this out.

good stuff Ralph !
I was busy trying to find what was the cause of the misfire on 2 or 3 of my cylinders (and found it was due to faulty spark plugs althhogh I had cleaned them previously) so couldn't have a look at the pin, but will do within this week
thanks again
