#1 Indicator switches

Post by Alty Ian » Fri Jun 19, 2015 3:39 pm

I am trying to restore the indicator switch and bought a new cancel part and rivet from Richard Smith. However, once fitted I realised something was missing and a PO has taken the switch apart and the headlight flash spring and contact was the wrong way round and there seems to be at least one spring missing as well.

These are the parts I have got.

When assembled the brass plate doesnt touch the centre contacts as I suspect a spring is missing as shown below.

It also appears I should have a spring on each side of the headlamp flasher contacts but there's only one now?

Can anyone confirm what parts I'm missing, I should be able to find springs or make them if I knew what I should have?

I think the switch I have is a 3.8 one, does anyone have a spare one or one off a car they could look at for me. The 4.2 one is very similar as well.

It just needs the electrical contacts plate removing (2 screws) to see where the springs go?

Thanks Steve

That has confirmed what I thought, now all I need is to find/make two springs of suitable length and diameter.

Great help that.

Fixed it :D Discovered that the brass springs are in two lengths, the longer one I had goes through the plunger and a shorter one goes inside the switch inside to release the contact when you let go of the stalk after flashing.
