I thought I'd watch it on the off chance I might learn something. And I did - I found it most interesting;
And that got me thinking about Mr Jones' 5 speed gearbox, which, if I recall correctly, had a tendency to push the circlip (snap ring) off the back of the main-shaft.
One of the things Paul mentioned in his video is the chamfer on the inner race of most ball bearings, and he explained how, if the bearing was up against a circlip, you needed to either use a bearing with a square inner edge (i.e. no chamfer or radius), or fit a re-inforcing washer, otherwise the bearing could push the circlip out of its groove under hard axial load. Obvious when you think about it, but I'm not sure I'd have spotted it.
I was wondering - was that ever considered as a source of your circlip failure David?
