Depends if it is a Smiths or AC-Delco motor.

You read the Factory Fit thread, very carefully
: viewtopic.php?p=43520&highlight=delco#43520
The Delco casing has eight support slots in the lower casing which look a bit like the vents on a 250GTO. It has a diameter of 2 3/4 " compared to 3" for a Smiths. Bud Marston and I have been corresponding over this and here are a couple of his photos:

Smiths motors were usually printed as such on the base in white/red paint or had a sticker on the body with part number in the format FHM xxx/xx. Smiths also usually used a metal fan wheel rather than nylon. The Delco Remy motors are unmarked (although there may be a seven divit part number stamped on the top) and use a nylon fan. If you want new bearings you need to look at GM product.
My current project is to understand where the Delco - Smiths Industries divide occurred but for the moment I think it is fair to say all 3.8's and 4.2's should have the Delco motor and nylon fan. Unfortunately the Delco blowers were troublesome so many have been replaced. If anyone has one on a S2 4.2 please let me know what year.
