Pipes - Heater & Vacuum

Hello All,

I'm replacing the pipes with stainless during restoration on my LHD Series 1.5 fhc. The after market heater pipe fits fine on its own but apparently, being stainless, the radius of the bend behind the flange is not as tight as on the factory heater pipe. This puts the pipe 2.5mm to 5mm further back from the inside of the firewall and therefore fouls with the vacuum pipe.

I understand that RHD cars have two vacuum pipes. LHD cars only have one vacuum pipe but two sets of holes in the firewall.

Question (finally): Are there any reasons why I can't install the vacuum pipe in the upper set of holes? Are the heater valve and wiper motor positioned the same on your RHD cars as my LHD car?

Should be fine.

Might want to ensure you can get the other pipes and the rack in as well before you get too far into the build though.

Thanks for the heads up Andrew. Yes, nozzles coming in this week. The other pipes and rack when I get these two pipes worked out. Thanks again.

I had the same problem. I contacted the (well known) supplier who informed me that it wasn't possible to bend the stainless pipe that tight. It hadn't prevented them from selling me one that didn't fit though. Ken Verity proved them wrong by making me one that fitted perfectly. I'm sure he wouldn't mind me recommending him. Only one of the many hurdles he got me over during my rebuild.
