Shims in front subframe?

Took the subframe apart for paint. I found these shims sandwiched between the front subframe and the left and right side frames. They don't appear in the parts book.

Here's a pic of the shims;
about 2x5" and .050" thick.

Here's a pic showing their location:

The subframe has been apart before, so these could have been added. They don't look homemade. Anybody seen these before? Should these go back in?

Yes, it's factory. It is needed as there would be a small gap due to the way the metal is formed on the picture frame it attaches to.

As Simon says these fill a step between the picture frame and the engine frames.

They're not shown in the graphic on Plate 35 of the parts catalog, but they are listed on the previous page as "C.15045, Packing Plate, between attachment flange of Side Members and lower rail of Cross Member".

Sure enough, there it is! I skimmed the listing for "shim" but overlooked this "packing plate". I sketched it into my book plate.
