Hi
Can someone tell me the difference between a LHD steering column and a rhd steering column on a S3.
At present I have a LHD column with indicator stalk on left and ignition barrel on right.
I have been looking for a decent picture on the web but can't really find what I want of a RHD column..
If they are different can anyone explain what process is needed to convert from LHD to RHD assuming it is possible

I have no experience with S3 columns but have converted a number of S1 ones.
It is simply an exercise in removing the small semicircular bracket that the indicator mounts to and welding it onto the other side of the column. Some shimming may be needed on the indicator screws to get the cancel to work properly.

Hi i have converted several series 3 coloums ,there is a bit of work to be done but if you have a grinder and can get hold of a welder its pretty simple .the coloum needs to revolved a 180 degrees this will put ignition and indicator stalk in correct position for R/H/D .so remove coloum , remove indicator switch ,then the top securing bracket needs the weld removed and turning through 180 degrees and re welding same thing for lower bracket ,i like to do them one at atime so as to get the correct angle ,when all this is done refit indicator stalk and fit to car it works as it should ,just take your time hope this helps cheers john :D

Thanks for that John.
I figured that would be the case.
Looking at moden rhd cars the position of the lhd indicator and ignition would be correct without altering it but I assume that the indicator stalk would be in the way of the choke levers if I just left it?
Can you confirm this?

Anyone reading this don't make the same mistake that I did.
I moved the brackets 180 degrees and then the ignition lock hit the mounting bracket so wouldn't fit in the steering column...
Stupid mistake I suppose but something to watch out for....apart from that relatively straightforward to convert
