#1 Bonnet Plug

Post by mylesw » Sun Jan 10, 2016 10:46 am

Hello

I am trying to attach the bonnet plug (female side) to my new wiring harness. The old plug has the soldered connections - what is the recommended way to attached the new harness? I am thinking about either opening up the connectors and soldering in the new harness, or using butt connectors within the plug to attach the new harness. Has anyone done this before and how did you do it?

Thanks

Myles

You could buy a new plug/socket which have screw terminals and is far better made than the originals. Just remember you must NOT solder the wire ends before attaching - the solder 'creeps' over time causing the connection to loosen. Reclaiming the original is difficult but if you have the correct de-soldering equipment can be done.

The wires from the female socket to the multi-connector on my car were soldered into the the socket. They came out one by one with heat to soften the solder. The new wires went in the same way.
