#1 Bellhousing/gearbox input shaft oil seal.

Post by jjorj » Sat Jan 16, 2016 4:32 pm

My 3.8 FHC is progressing to the point where I am ready to join engine and gearbox. I have a new E type fabs box and instructions say remove input shaft oil seal and pilot bush but then only mention replacing the pilot bush. The front of the gearbox is different to the original Moss box and I wonder if there is an oil seal fitted inside there.
I am reluctant to fit them together without replacing the seal removed with a new one but it is not specifically mentioned. Has anyone experience of this particular box and the necessity of a seal?

I know of no oil seal associated with the pilot bush , which I take to be the phosphor bronze bush which supports the nose of the input shaft in the rear of the crankshaft

No, there is no seal there, my point was that the instructions said to change that bush, but only to remove the seal from the rear of the bellhousing and no mention of replacing it. It is the seal that would effectively be at the front end of the gearbox.

Ah, I see. I should just ask Uryk at E type Fabs for clarification . I presume, but do not know, that the gearbox input shaft in his box has an internal seal

Easier to get in touch with Allah than Ulryk. Was just hoping someone on forum may know.

Have heard quite rapidly from Uryk via Andy at Hutsons and for others information there is a seal in the front of the E type fabs box.
