#1 Trickle charge or run?

Post by TrevS » Sat Dec 19, 2015 12:28 pm

Hi all

I recently took out my speedometer and my series 1 FHC hasn't been run for over a month since. The question I have is should I try running the car without the speedo in or wait for the when the gauge comes back serviced and the car is back together?

At the moment the speed cable, mileage cable and bulb connectors are all hanging loose out of the dash so not sure if it's going to cause electrical issues if I try starting and driving the car. I'd rather wait until the car is all back together before running but also know it's important to keeps these cars running regularly.

I do have a trickle charger and as the battery is currently disconnected I could hook it up to that but not sure if the charger is suitable. It's a C-TEK MXS 5.0 unit.

As always, any help is much appreciated

Trevor

Trevor,

As long as the bulbs are still in the holders you shouldn't have a problem with a short if you start/drive the car. I'm not sure if you need to earth the ignition lamp (to the 3aw) to get the alternator to charge or not. I would, just to be sure.

Not much point in starting the engine if you don't run it long enough to get it up to temperature though.

I would just put the Ctek on it and run the recycle process.

Andrew
