Hello and help ,I've recently imported a series 2 and have so for drove it into my garage and that's about it , it runs obviously but does need quite a bit of fettling, I've started it up weekly letting it reach a temperature where the fans kick in, however the last time the temperature gauge was past the mid point but no movement from the fans, any ideas as to what to check next ?

Hi Mick....first do you have a maintenance manual and wireing diagram, if not they are on the knowledge base section......its common for guages to not be accurate....so are the fans operating when the guage goes further......

Hi Steve, the temperature gauge was probably 3/4 towards max ,
The fans showed no sign of starting and to be honest I didn't want to risk it getting any hotter. Previous to that on the couple of occasions I'd started it they came on with the gague half way

Hi Mick.....check the fuses behind the drop down dash panel...while your there take them all out cleane the contacts and ends of fuses, and light wd40 spray.....the otter switch top front edge of radiator is temperature controled to switch on an earth to the fan relay behind mudflap panel battery side next to horn relay check all connections

Hi Mick.....were using slightly different terminology here, the thermostat is the unit fitted on the inlet manifold that opens as the coolant temperature rises to allow more flow from the radiator to engine.....the otter switch fitted on the radiator operates on temperature to put an earth to the fan relays to operate the fans........then there is the temperature sender unit on the manifold that operates the temp gauge.....

Steve! Thanks once again ........obviously I've a lot to learn !! I think it's the connection from the otter switch that's the problem . I removed the connections and bridged them with a wire and the fans started up .
I'll clean them up and try again .

Dear Mickey,

There is clearly nothing wrong with the wiring and the rest of the circuit then, so replace the Otter Switch - it doesn't work. It is unlikely to be repairable.

It is a Mitsubishi thermo switch and very reliable - I use one. Mitusbishi MB007639, GM 12337506, AC Delco C1808, Standard TS144, Motorad 5068

The Fosseway otter switch replacement kit is very well made, just beware of flange diameter. My 3.8 aperture was 19mm and the adaptor plate was 20mm so required some grinding away. Works a treat once installed though. I think it's being altered for future production runs.
