#1 Reverse Light Wiring

Hello
I am in the midst of wiring my RHD 3.8 FHC and when I come to the LH side loom I have a green/brown wire for the reverse light but no corresponding wire on the dash loom. When I check my old loom I find the same thing - no wire in the dash loom. Looking through the forum I see that this question has been asked before but I could not find an answer. Some have used a spare purple/white wire but I don't have one of those either. What is the solution to this? Run a loose wire?
Thanks
Myles

Is there one on the RHS?

There should be a double bullet connector near the choke warning light on the driver's side on a RHD car.
This is the power source for a green wire that drops (solo IIRC) through the tunnel grommet to the reverse light switch and the circuit is your green brown from there to the reverse lamp.
Pete (red/green/brownish colour blind, but who can read a black & white wiring diagram)

Thanks for you replies. There is no green/brown wire on the RHS.
So a green/brown wire runs loose from the switch on the gearbox, back through the bulkhead and then traces the harness to the LH corner where it connects to the LH body harness? Seems a bit odd - why did Jaguar not run this wire inside the loom?
Thanks

The only 'loose' wire as I recall is the green supply wire from the right side (not 'passenger side' choke lamp connector through the tunnel top front grommet to the reverse light switch. I don't think that was totally unbound for its full length but never finished wiring up that car (sold the tub to Carsten) and I may be mis-remembering. But clearly, if neither your old harness and new harness contain what you expect then it is highly unlikely to be a harness problem per se. I'm just offering a few poorly-remembered snippets of seeing long wires in the gearbox tunnel area and boot floor area that were not part of any fat harness bundle and to that extent at least would appear to conform with what you are seeing on your old and new harness. I would be addressing my query to the harness maker in the first instance.

Hi Myles.... I am in the process of installing looms for my 1962 RHD Series One. I purchased my sets from Autosparks. Not certain but think they make Barrett's looms. Anyway Autosparks have an Ancillary kit with lots of small additional cabling including a black sleeve approx. 1m long with green and green/brown leads for the reverse switch cabling. I still have my old loom and it has this sleeved cabling. The green connects into a 3way bullet connector at the steering column where it picks up greens from fuse 7. The Green/Brown, must also pick up a connection there to feed back to the reversing light.....just haven't got to that yet myself.
Has been mentioned many times but def. recommend Coventry Auto Components Wiring Diagrams. Still available for Etype 3.8 and makes wiring life a lot easier.
