#1 Switch Panel Removal

Hi guys, trying to replace the headlamp switch. Can anyone advise how to remove the radio console to get to the switch panel properly? Hinging the switch panel down and removing the actual switch panel screws still don't give enough room to access and push out the switch as the trim on top of the console fouls it. Thanks for any advise, must get round to buying a manual!

You've discovered the No. 1 cause of broken switch indicator strips!

There are two thumbscrews on either side of the radio console. Remove these and carefully bend the sides of the console outwards to clear the studs. With the shift lever in 2nd or 4th, slowly work the console back and over the shift lever. This can be a bit of a bugger if the carpet padding in this area is thicker than it should be, but patience and perseverance will win here.

Wise words from Mark. I thought mine was the only car you had to remove the thumb screws from to hinge the panel out!!! I assumed i had something misaligned.....it was on the to do list. May as well remove it from the list as it seems it is a common trait then. I learn something every week on here...brilliant.

Thanks Mark and Andrew

Safely removed! Now to figure out which wires go back where as about 8 spades pinged off when I released the panel! Happy days.

Ah yes...I should have mentioned that. I usually have the one to the voltage regulator and the starter solenoid fall off! Bet you will have different ones though.
