The 'E' Type Forum

I have decided to swop my tyres to Dunlop SP Sports. I have 6 inch 72 spoke tyres and want the correct tyres to suit the wheel and car. I know I know I know about rim size and tyres size , but forgetting all that what do we all think these are ? 185 or 205?

OK I'll start by saying ER70's (205)

Not 185s...and they look far to wide for those rims almost bulging off

the SP sports do tend to bulge out. I suspect that they are 205 ER 70s on a 5 inch rim.

They appear to be 185 Dunlop SP tyres which do look fatter and better proportioned than the Michelin XVS on the E-Type. Here are 185 Spo's on 5" wheels on my FHC:

thank you David. I would hazard a guess that both the green and red cars have the 205 equivalent, where as yours are the 185 as you said. This was what i was trying to establish . Either way, I do think the tyres look so good on an E type. thanks again.

Off topic I know, but it has to be said that that FHC of yours is lovely, David. The colour suits it really well.

Not to hi-jack the thread, but I just received my set of Dunlop center laced wheels after a five month wait. Now shopping tires. I like the look of the Pirelli Cinturato CN12 (recently released in the U.S.). What's the prevailing view of this tire? The 205/70 is about $320 each. (A set of four Sumitomo AS PO2 in a 215/65 is $275....)

I know we have discussed the RS5's in the past but are you wedded to Dunlop radials? I have found the Blockleys 185 x 15 radial (MWS) to be a very good tyre.

I like the original X plys but its really about aesthetics, I am embarrassed to admit. The majority of onlookers regard an early E type as being beautiful but under wheeled and tyred. I know that does not matter but I rather agree with the masses, so I have 6 inch rims on my 3.8 and the Avon tyres I have are awesome on the road. However, they are basically race compound tyres for the road, and as they are so sticky they pick up every chipping and throw them down the sills. Hence I want to replace the tyres with a similar size tyre that looks good. I would happily have a spare set of wheels with RS5 fitted, because they just look so period.

Opalescent silver blue FHC and Opalescent blue (as in David's car?) OTS would look most effective together - a superb combination! You should park next to each other at BH...

What about the interior? not that I'm suggesting it, but the white fixed head from CMC (mentioned in the Telegraph thread) has an unusual colour blue which I personally find rather appealing.

Andrew : by a coincidence, I sat next to Peter Neumark , who owns this car, at lunch today, and I raised the whole subject with him. You are absolutely correct , and the interior is indeed pale blue , even though it does not look it. What is even more interesting is that the exterior is not white/cream but Pearl grey . There is also a very interesting tale attached to its history which I have posted on the other thread
