Hi there,
I was wondering ( after having received numerous different advice on the topic) if anyone could help with pointing out what the "best" tyre pressure is for a 1966 Jaguar E 4.2 series 1 FHC with original standard tyre size ?
Many thx for any opinions on this matter.
cheers
Erik

#3 tyre pressure
Well, I keep on hoping.....
I am basically hesitating between 1,9 front and 2,1 rear tyres but am unsure if this is too high or too low.
cheers

Hi Erik
The official 1966 figure is 32psi
I don't think there is any "right" pressure. It rather depends how you like your car set up. The good old standard 30psi all round is probably a good starting point although as an example I run my tyres at 36psi as I prefer sharper steering and to slide early rather than grip and let go. I know others that run a few psi below 30 for the improved comfort.
You really need to set them up to suit you but start around 30psi with a modern tyre and you'll not be be too far out.

#5 tyres pressure
Hi ANdy,
many thx for your feedback. I appreciate it. Just a few clarifications (probably no brainer so my apologies for my ignorance..):
I have the Michelin XVS, 185 from longstone classic tyres. Do you consider them as well "modern tyres" ?
Also, 30 psi, do you know how that translates into bar ? (e.g. 1.9 etc.)
Sorry for the silly question but any feedback would be much appreciated
cheers

Hi Erik
30psi is 2.068 bar.
Divide psi by 14.5067 to get bar.

Yes start with 30psi on the XVS and see how you get on. Then up the pressure to say 32psi and see if you like the feel better and so one.
Don't stray too far from this region until you get to know the car.
