Help please
My car came without a Rev counter generator fitted
I has acquired one and the drive adaptor ( should have checked cam shaft )
When I came to fit and the cam shaft isn't threaded for the drive.
What options apart from getting new cam shafts ( do I need a pair?)
Or get it machined? So it fits, will this alter balance.
Or can I drive the Rev counter from another source

Easiest solution is to get the tacho converted to a modern circuit board and fit the generator as a dummy.

I fitted the internals from a Series 3 XJ tach. Fiddly but not complicated, then run from the coil impulses.

I'm with Andrew and Pete. The tach generator is a pain in the neck.

There is an excellent thread on here about converting your voltage driven tacho so the cam generator just provides an engine speed dependent ac frequency to drive the tacho. I have converted mine. Works a dream. Bit of electronic knowledge is all you need....and be able to etch a PCB helps...

If you're in the US Mike Eck (jaguarclock.com) does them as well.

If I swap the Rev counter to electronic can you let me know how it's wired up to the gauge
