#1 Fitting new door handle key barrel

I am trying to fit a new key barrel. Have reassembled everything with the new barrel however when unlocked it only occasionally works!

I have checked a number of posts on here and a sure I have all the correct parts. My problem appears to be that the plunger is worn and that it does not seem to stay in position as selected by turning the key. It was fine with the old barrel (which had one of its legs broken)

The end cap and the disc attached to the door handle have cut outs shaped as per the plunger, so unless they are in alignment the plunger wont operate.

My door push button operates but mostly like it is locked ie it pushes in but does not operate the plunger. This suggests that the plunger is not in the correct orientation. The orientation should be set when the key is used to select locked (plunger does not move) or unlocked (Plunger should be moved by the barrel)

I have seen a number of posts where people gave up and ordered new handle assemblies.....I am close to that...

any help much appreciated. Is there a special knack to this. I am prteyy sure I have the spring in place that centres the barrel, and all the other bits..

cheers

Chris

Chris : the length of the spring loaded vertical link is critical . You will notice that it has 3 holes in it. You can try altering which hole it is on to see if that helps

Thanks Chris I see what you mean I will give that a go although I lost one of the spring clips which flew across the garage :(
