#1 fuel tank installation

Post by M4rk » Sun Mar 13, 2016 7:19 pm

Hi,

I'm just about to install the fuel tank in my serise 2 fhc and noticed the vent just has a short pipe attached going to nowhere, I can't find any extenernal outlet in the boot for this to attach to, is this just left to vent into the boot?

Thanks in advance for any help

Mark

No, that would be a complete disaster and would spray petrol all over the boot. If you are referring to a single 8-9mm vent pipe next to the filler and you have no corresponding connection at the filler pipe, then I suggest you blank it off.

If you are referring to a fuel tank vapour recovery system which goes to a charcoal cannister and on to the carburettors, then you should consult the relevant manual.

Your parts manual should show you which is which.

kind regards
Marek

Mark, if you do blank it off, just make sure the petrol cap is a vented one and that it is working otherwise you run the risk of creating a vacuum in the tank when drawing fuel or pressurising it in warm weather.

Thanks,

It's a USA car I am converting I've taken the canister out so I will block the vent and use a vented filler cab.
Thanks for the help just wanted to beb sure before I fit the tank, I didn't fancy having to take it out again if I had done the wrong thing, it looks like a tight fit.

Cheers

Mark, if you have a look at Chrisvine's blog, a member on here, there is a very good write up with photos of how he did his.
