Is it possible that the magnetic wheel loses its magnetism? In the case of my speedo the drag cup moves freely and moves the needle and the input shaft will turn the magnet. But the magnetic wheel will not turn, does not turn/effect the drag cup!!

Simon : the magnet rotating within the cup can lose its magnetism although it is not very usual in my experience ( exposure to the strong field of a demagnetiser is the only thing which occurs to me as a likely cause ). Try lifting the needle over the stop and seeing where it comes to rest - it should lie on a small white spot which is just the "wrong" side of the stop, and it could be that the needle has got twisted on the cup shaft , which might create your problem , because of course the spiral spring tension would then be wrong . If that does no good, Speedograph Richfield in Nottingham are highly recommendable .

Yes which is why they don't work accurately Or it's the spring. They are 50 years old after all.

The easiest thing to do is use a GPS to check your speed and put markings on the dial.

You could always send it here for an overhaul, not expensive, and there are others who will do the job.
