Yes I know the subject of jacking has been covered a million times, and I'm happy with my piece of timber under the picture frame (cable-tied in place), but what's the best way to jack up my 2+2 if I have a puncture halfway to the middle of nowhere?

Hi Bob......I use a standard scissir jack

I have two pieces of hardwood 6" x 4" x 1" in the wheel well along with a cheap scissor jack. The wood spreads the load on any soft surface, like for example, the grass at Prescott Hill. Limited lift means I have to raise the wheel rather than the car.

I never lift the front of the car on the picture frame. Previous owners and some professional outfits have, leaving marks dents and creases.

What jacks are people keeping in their bootwell for emergencies?

Any LWB E is more like a modern car and has ajacking point for each corner and you don't have to jack the wole side up halway along the sill. The jacking points themelves are unusual 'male' nipples though, so many normal Jacks are risky and would skid off. The LWB points are the same as 1968-1992 'series' XJ so the jacks are cheap as chips.
