#1 8 WAY PLUG ON BONNET

Post by JOHN HAY » Wed Feb 03, 2016 5:43 pm

Hi Guys, can any one help with the fitting of the 8 way plug on the bonnet, which way is it mounted and where does the triangular bracket go.

Thanks

John

The bracket goes on the back of the diaphragm and clamps the male plug to the diaphragm, there should be a gasket between the plug and the body panel.

See the parts catalogue.

Does the whole bonnet panel have to come off to change the bonnet connector plug? Or is it accessible in another way?

No, you can remove it from within the nose reaching through the leadlamp opening>: This is a photo I took whilst upgrading the headlights with relays.

Thank you David.

Just remove the headlamp and reach in from there? Never had them off before. This is a S2 by the way.

Mark,

As the S2 headlamp scoops are riveted in place and a lot harder to remove and replace, I would first try to do this by removing the indicator housing to see if you can get your (or helper's) forearm in from there. Otherwise you will have to remove the 'eyebrow', pop off the chrome trims from the rivet heads and then drill out the rivets.

The down side is you will be working blind as your arm will block sight of where you'll be accessing. You should be able to shine a light in from the opening in the under-bonnet panel.

The difficulty might not be the actual plug and backing plate itself, as these are secured by the three bolts which are accessible, but removing/connecting the bullet terminals in the 10-way connector. If it's not too corroded in there it might be worth trying to undo the two nuts so the 10-way connector can be removed from its mounting studs.
