#1 Stromberg Carburettor Mod

Post by rswift » Fri May 13, 2016 10:42 am

For those of us stuck with the dual Strombergs on US spec series 2 cars, I have just done the very simple mod devised I believe by Peter Crespin. It took about 5 minutes, can be reversed in the same time...involves no new parts or removing anything from the car, but I can report in my case a significant improvement in mid range pick up....I'm no longer afraid to attempt an overtake.

I know you boys with Triple SU's won't have this problem, and I'd love to join the SU club.....but have you seen the prices they're fetching !.....

So long term I'll look for the SU's but short term, it worked for me, and as a new owner I discovered it by accident...so thought I'd stick my findings on here as more and more re-imported cars are on the road.

It involves simply disconnecting the secondary throttle, and keeping the secondary throttle to a permanent open position.

I have a great photo and description, which I used, but not sure how to post it here. PM your email address, I'll happily send it over.

I did that 'stragleberg mod' two years ago. Google that or 'Crespin mod' and it should take you to a detailed description.
