I am currently well into a bare shell full restoration 1965 S1 4.2 FHC and am debating whether to go 5 speed or not. What is the best box to use and would going 5 speed effect the value of the car eitherway? I have matching nos and would keep the correct 4 speed if I do go 5. Any advice appreciated

Hi Bob
The T5 gearbox seams to be the best alternative with 1st and 4th vertually the same making 5th a better cruising gear.
Please feel free to contact me if you would like more information.

Hi Bob,
I've been running a JT-5 gear box for 5 years now, and I'm extremely happy with the swap. I my case, I swapped out a worn out Moss box, so the difference was very dramatic.
Now, I've heard some real horror stories re; 5 spd swaps that have left folks bitter and disappointed, and several thousand $$$ lighter!
Here's what I know that has not worked, what has worked the best for most:
Stay away from Getrags for SWB cars ... plus their gear ratios are not enjoyable to drive.
Stay away from used boxes, or boxes built with used parts.
Purchase from people who are experienced, and specialized in this specialty, and have an established 'track record' that will supply you with references.
Buy all new boxes only ... I have the original JT-5 from 5 speeds.com.
You can still get Borg Warner T5's and get an adapter/bellhousing to mate with your 6 cyl Jag block.
If you're running a 3.31 rearend suggest the following ratios: 2.95 1.94 1.34 1.00 .80
If you're running a 3.54, suggest the following ratios: 3.35 1.99 1.33 1.00 .73
Hope that helps a bit,
Cheers,

Hi Bob,
That's Uryk Dmyterko's site. Bought my SS Exhaust system from him a few years back.
I got a 35hp improvement from his header system ... alone!
Also, his subframes are second-to-none .... and they "fit"!
He's a great guy! I'd do business with him in a heartbeat.
Didn't know he's doing 5-Speeds now. They look like Paul Cangialosi's 5-Speeds (that's what I'm running)
Uryk sells nothing but the best. You can't go wrong with Uryk.
If you talk with him, give him my beat regards.
Cheers,

Everything you need to know about the various 5 speeds is here: http://www.5speeds.com/copycats.html
Bit of a rant but you quickly realise the differences! Good site worth exploring.
