Hi all, looking for a little guidance. Have a (mostly) series 2 that I am starting to restore. On dropping out the IRS it would appear that someone has put in a series 1 IRS in the past.

As I am going for a car I want to drive for pleasure and not too fused about originality should I be looking to put in another IRS / upgrades or is there nothing wrong in running with the series 1 IRS?

They are pretty much the same although the S1 had Powerlock (limited slip differential) but not sure if all the S2's had, In any case you have your 'upgrade' to LSD and there is nothing more you need to do other than enjoy the car.

Whats the difference between the two?

The brakes are very much different, as well as some other minor details.
I am no expert but I guess that if you have front S1 brakes and rear S2 ones the braking balance/performance is compromised.

But are you talking about brakes or the suspension parts? Or the diff?
I agree that there are difference in brakes and diff. But suspension wise (dampers, wishbones, irs cage etc) there are no difference (?)

The entire IRS is series 1, suspension, brakes and diff. Guessing someone need to make a complete car before selling it so put in a series 1 IRS
