Lads, I am rewiring my car.
Using harness #113 Engine bay, which is correct for my LHD car.
I intend to convert to RHD soon'ish (and will deal with the reservoir wiring at that point.)
So would be fitting #107 dash harness, for RHD.
Just off the phone to Autosparks and have been told 113 LHD and 107 RHD will not join ?
I did not speak with the techies who are not in today.
What the scoop men ?
Surely simply shorten and extend wires as necessary.
Thanks

Any loom can be made to work with any other loom, if you're prepared to cut it about enough, but it will detract from the pretty new loom covers.
Personally I'd wait until you do the RHD conversion and use the correct loom at the time. When converting the dash you'll have to remove and replace everything anyway.

Yes Andrew I am kind of coming to that conclusion myself.
The car will be going RHD so the dash will need the RHD loom. That is the fixed point.
To alter a LHD engine loom when I convert would be simple in the engine bay, but I do wonder how much work is needed behind the dash, to plug into the now RHD dash loom.
Prudence would go with the RHD engine loom now and run a few wires until the conversion.
It is good to hear others experience.

I have rewired 7 or 8 cars now, but every time it involves doing a LHD to RHD conversion. So I don't have a good feel for the LHD inter loom connections as all I do with those looms is rip them out when we strip the cars. Nevertheless I think that connecting two mismatched looms could be pretty time consuming.
If your car works as it is at the moment, or if you can repair the engine bay loom enough to get it working then that's what I'd do, and fit all the correct RHD looms in one go when the time comes.
Trying to rewire an assembled car is a lot harder, as opposed to doing a ground-up resto on a bare body shell.
One tip for disassembly. DO not just pull the loom of at the connectors. Get a good pair of sharp sidecutters and cut each wire off from switches, gauges etc leaving a 1" tail of wire. This way you know what wire colour goes back on that connector when you come to do reassembly. This will save you a lot of time later. With the indicator stalk, cut the wires on the far side of the black connectors leaving the connectors intact as the wires coming out of the indicator stalk do not necessarily match the loom wire colours.
Also, take a number of good clear photos of how the loom is laid behind the dash, paying particular attention to where the sub looms branch off. If you misposition the loom when you first put it in it will make connecting the wires very difficult as they may not reach.
In case you haven't found it already, there is a lot of useful information on both RHD conversion and wiring here: http://www.myetype.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=700

We used to make up 'patch' looms when converting. Now we fit a new loom and fuseblocks. Just not worth the effort plus you can still have wiring glitches.

Thanks for the good advice guys.
I have decided to stop faffing about and start the work.
I have ordered and today recieved a RHD loom from SNG
And will be getting a RHD dash loom shortly.
Upper steering column out.
Bonnet came off last night
no going back.
One thing for sure, is that i will be back here before long
Thanks again.
