I'd be grateful for some help here.

I'm re-using my old rear springs as recommended by many on the Forum. I ordered new Boge rear shocks from SNGB (as I think one of my originals is leaking), plus the top rings C19027 plus spring seats C19820, as advised by them. The spring seats C19820 are in fact out of stock so I plan to re-use the originals. The split collet comes included with the shock.

The bottom end all looks fine.

But it's not at all clear to me how the spring will locate at the top. The top ring C19027 doesn't locate onto the shock in any way, and even if it did, it would introduce extra packing thickness between spring and shock that didn't exist before. If I leave it out, the length will be OK but the spring isn't positively located at the top, which sounds like a very bad idea. What am I missing here?

Hi Jeremy....that shock dosnt look right.....the shaft shouldnt be showing.....not sure on the S1 if it should have a seperate dust cover or if its built in the shock as per your original

hi wont the dust cover come off the original shock , they might be stuck ? but will come off

Hi gents, don't I feel stupid! It's so obvious now you point it out.....and I missed that post which showed the separate cover for the shock. The new shock is straight out of the box from SNGB, with no cover, and they sell a cover which looks like it would fit. In my defence they didn't actually tell me I'd need to use the old covers or buy new ones.

I will have a go at those old covers tomorrow.

I'm sure my rear Boges came with the covers.

Don't fit the aluminium spacer ring.

Covers on the old shocks are spot welded in 3 places at the flange. Looks like I will need to buy new covers....

Looking at your image it looks as if you have the C19027 the wrong way round.
Also the springs should locate when under pressure.
It is always recommended to purchase our springs with shocks.

I'm struggling with all 3 of those statements -
C19027 ring doesn't locate positively either way round AND increases effective spring length;
I don't really understand how the springs would locate under pressure;
I didn't buy new springs as a number of forum members who patently know what they're talking about recommended not to, to avoid ride height problems.

Should I send the Boge shocks back and start again from somewhere else? And if so, where?

Hi Jeremy....have a look again at the thread i linked to a few posts back..........some S1 cars used the spacer and some didnt...here,s a link to one that did http://www.myetype.co.uk/forum/viewtopi ... t&start=60 your originals didnt have then so either cut the welds off and use your existing or get new covers......re SNG reply you really are dealing with sales people....they were correct that the spacer is the wrong way around, and there advice to buy there springs with there shocks would have given you a complete unit......I used there all in one supplied shock/spring and it worked for me.....but if you look through that link above there are others who had problems.....I would also sugest that to confirm your existing shocks were correct for your car and no spacer was originaly fitted look at the Jagur parts catalogue ( in knowledge base section )and check the parts number against your chassis number......re using your existing springs.....if you ride height was ok then fine....but if the height was low then your springs may have gone soft and replacements need..or height spacers added

Hi Steve, yep I studied that thread. This whole thing can clearly cause headaches...(e.g. I found out CMC are having their own springs made as they can't get the right spec from elsewhere). My plan is to keep things as close as poss to what they were, as the ride height looked perfect before I dismantled the car a few months ago. I.e. re-use the shock covers, no spacers, keep the orig springs. If it ends up looking funny I will at least have a much better idea of what the options are! Thanks again,
