Hi,
'69 Export XKE. Twin Strombergs. Originals, one was corroded beyond repair. Bought a pair from an XJ6. The replacement carbs have:
1.
Angled vent tubes on the right just under the diaphragm casting. I assume its for venting from the engine. Can I just block off as I have the vent to the air cleaner on my car?
2. The RH carb has a long small pipe underneath just before the flange for bolting to the inlet manifold. Looks like an idle air feed? What do I do with it? Does it need a pipe or just vents to air?

From an XJ6 forum, sounds like pipe underneath the RH carb is for dist. vacuum advance. None on my distributor so that's now plugged.

I'll assume upper pipes are crankcase emission feeds and block off unless I hear otherwise.

I dropped fuel down the carbs and it does run (about 10 secs) repeatedly without any calamity which is a good thing for a car dragged out of a barn. The rebuilt carbs don't seem to be functioning but maybe part due to lack of the manifold spacer in front of the carbs blocking an air feed.

Quite heatening. Just under 40 lbs pressure fired up. Rev counter works too. so one job less.
