#1 Aftermarket aircon

Post by chuffer » Mon Dec 21, 2009 12:06 pm

When I went to an E Type technical forum at Castle Bromwich earlier in the year I spoke to the owner of a car which had an aftermarket aircon system added. The phpoto I took is shown below:

If this is your car or you know of the installation can you let me know please? I am very interested to understand the configuration, particularly where those louvres came from.

If anyone has any experience of the Clayton installation can you also get in touch so I can pick your brains, please? Ideally I'd like to sort out my aircon configuration whilst I'm installing the T5 gearbox in January.

cheers
Ray

I believe this is the Gunmetal grey FHC which was heavily modified in the Netherlands and which is currently for sale at CMC at Bridgnorth. CMC sell a kit ( for about ? 2500 + VAT IIRC ) which is identical to that fitted to this car. However, Nick Goldthorp, the MD of CMC , showed it to me and did warn me that it does require a lot of underbonnet mods - very similar to those on the factory aircon cars with multiple pulley changes (all included in the kit) and a radiator moved considerably forward - and I noted that the condenser unit, which is very sizeable, restricts passenger footwell space quite noticeably . It is mounted above the ankles of the passenger. I think he also told me that it is just a refrigeration unit i.e it has no drier

The louvres I believe are standard Jaguar ones from an XJ6 /40/300 of the 1980s-1990s

Hi Christopher,

Many thanks for your reply. Yes, it was gunmetal grey and the connection with both CMC and Holland ring a bell. It sounds like I need to get in touch with CMC as I already have an aircon system with an evaporator in the passenger footwell, so the pulley arrangement etc is sorted. What I don't have is a neat way of distributing the air.

cheers again
Ray
