#1 Map Light

Somewhat surprisingly my S2 has no map light.
I'm thinking about installing a LED replacement but am not clear on how the wires should be routed. Presumably I'll need to remove the top of the dashboard to route the wires correctly?
Any advice much appreciated.
Ian

Hi Steve
No , I don't have one at all - just some brown backing card and a rivet!

Ian
No such drastic measure as removing the dashtop is required. The two wires sprout from the main loom behind the drop down centre section-purple/white and black if memory serves me correctly.
I routed the wires along the underside of the dashtop and through the small valley in the central demister vent "Y" nozzle. This keeps the wires clear of the top of the centre section when it's being pulled down for access.
An LED light would be a good option since the original fitment has a lot of bare live metalwork which comes very close to the top edge of the centre dash panel as it opens.
My light was disconnected when I first got the car-probably for this reason.
Cheers
Alan

Quite a few disconnect them so that if tne doors are not closed properly the battery does not drain

There are threads in the Upgrades Forum for adding LED strips for the map and instrument lights.

Also battery drain will not be a problem if you leave the door open with LED lights. Leaving the headlights on will be though and there is an upgrade to fit a headlamp on warning sounder in the same Forum.

More advice please!
I'm not clear on which wires I should connect the map light to.
I have found the purple / white and black wires coming out of the main loom that Alan referred to and these connect to the map light switch. I can't any other wires that would have run to the light itself.
Here is a photo showing the purple / white and black wires.
Please let me know where I should be connecting the wires from the map light.
Many thanks
Ian

Hi Ian...have a look at tbis wireing diagram...its from tne knowledge base section, it clearly shows the map light, door switches and main switch with tne numbers on it
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/849 ... Colour.jpg
So looks like your switch is wired ok, now you need to find tne connection at the light end and the purple live feed from the fuse

Hi Steve
Thanks for the link to the wiring diagram.
My problem is that I can't see any wires that are supposed to connect to the light itself. It looks like one of them should be purple and the other purple / white.
Any pointers as to where I should be looking?
Thanks
Ian

Thanks Steve - your photo was very helpful. I have managed to find the wires after much routing around and they are live so I can now fit the replacement light.
Another question if I may. How best to replace the speedo and rev counter bulbs? Will I need to remove the dash top to get at them?
Thanks again
Ian

Where are the map lights located. I have the switch and wiring but no light? I have a 69 xke, AC and auto. No light ever came on when doors open? I picture of one would be great. Assuming it is under the dash?

Hi..Whats your name....please try to put it in the signature area with your car model....it usual on a first post to do it in the Welcom section and introduce yourself and give a bit of background info.....the map light is in the center of the dash just under the rolled top....above the clock..... Steve
