Wishbone bush choice, which type please ?

After the local garage used pipe-wrenches and tore up the surfaces during steering adjustments, which they also got wrong, misreading in for out, I am about to change the fulcrum spindles, ie upper wishbone pivot shafts.

I am dealing with Wilkinsons in Yorkshire in an attempt to spread my business a bit, and because they have a workshop that fits what they sell, ostensibly. Anyone else used them for general purchases and not just for niche remanufactured specialities ?

Anyway, they are offering me a choice between Poly (expensive) or Rubber (cheap) bushes and whilst I normally avoid anything that is likely to be stiffer/harder/harsher like Poly, I wondered what The Party Line was regarding the choice for this application ?

Poly are slightly harder, and (I was told) less prone to deterioration from oil contamination and would last longer.
I'm not sure about the longevity thing.
I was also told the increase in resilience of poly bushes compensates for the decrease in rigidity of radial tyres over cross plies.
I'm also not sure about the hardness thing.
I think the suspension on my bag of nails is far too worn and sloppy to notice the difference. I'm sure there is more difference between tyre makes (of the same size and construction) than between poly and rubber bushes. But every little helps, so I put poly bushes on when the older rubber items started decaying.

Hi Rory.....it depends on what poly they are offering......when i refurbed mine i went for the black poly as sold buy SNG (Polybush).....i contacted the manufacturer to ask as there are different density of poly......i was told that the poly they use is as near to the spec of original rubber as tbey could get but is much more resiliant to oil, grease etc..used them all round on my car...no squeeks or issues

I think, before and after - comparisons are misleading, as their outcome depends to much on what you had in your car before (old, worn stuff...)
But since I fitted the black poly bushes from SNG some months ago I travelled well over 3000km on B roads in France and Spain and - not to miss - Andorra and I'm very happy with the suspension. It's not to stiff or harsh and feels as comfortable as an E-Type should feel.
I'd buy the black poly bushes from SNG again.
