Hi all, I am trying to get the correct switch for my series 2 2+2 panel dim/bright rocker switch. Does anyone know if this is a 3 position switch ie 0ff, bright and dim positions as most rocker switches seem to be only 2 positions ie on and off?
SNG have sent me a switch but it isn't correct. Any help would be much appreciated.

I though it was rather odd why you'd ever want an off position for the panel lights. If it's dark enough to need the headlights on then you'd always want the dash illuminated, as all modern vehicles do. David explained the reason it's three way:

Depending on the condition of your Generator/alternator and associated voltage regulator, the proper names for the 3 positions are either "Dim, Flicker, Off" or "Smoke, Smoulder, Burn"

I rewired these lights to the main lighting switch thereby freeing up that panel switch position for something more useful.

Hi Bernie,

The switches used appear to have changed during the production run of the S2 (at some point in 1969) although I don't know exactly when.

The earlier cars used part number C28581 (Lucas # 35825). The later cars had part number C32856 (Lucas # 39233).

Unfortunately, as you've found out, SNG have superseded both of these parts to part no 39599, which I assume is what you were sent.
