#1 Series 1.5 lhd to rhd upper steering column

Hello, I am new to the forum. I am restoring a 1968 USA roadster and converting it to rhd. When fitted to the LH position the upper steering column was secured into a recess with just two capturednut fixings low down. This recess does not exist on the RH side and there are four bulkhead captured nut fixings none of which line up. Also, the column fouls the bulkhead housing. Has anyone discovered a solution to the problem? If so, I would appreciate any information available.
Laurie.

Common problem.
A little fettling of holes, bulkhead etc is required. I did this last in 2011 though and have restored a number of E Types since so I'm a little vague on exactly what I did.
From memory I had to drill two holes and use bolts with nuts from inside the upper dash box section. There's also an aluminium packing piece that is used with the column on the left that you don't use on the right.
You can get away without moving the indicator switch from left to right as it will clear the dash and function OK. Ditto the ignition key.
Have you read Mike Cassidy's LHD to RHD articles in the Knowledge Base? viewtopic.php?f=16&t=700

Hi Andrew,
Thank you very much for your very useful information. I was beginning to wonder whether such a course was an option. One I was considering was an electric power steering conversion...
Kind regards,
Laurie.
