#1 Unknown Parts

Post by Grobinson » Fri May 24, 2019 2:35 pm

Good afternoon all,

I am new to the world of E Type ownership having recently acquired a BRG 1962 Series 1 FHC in left hand drive form. I am in the process of a conversion to right hand drive using a kit of parts purchased from Hutsons. All seems to be going pretty well so far but unfortunately I have found 2 parts which I can't identify and for the life of me I cant recall where I unbolted them from albeit I'm sure that they came from behind the dash; not that this helps!! I was hoping that someone may be able to assist? I've tried to attach an image but may have got this wrong owing to my unfamiliarity with the forum, apologies if this isn't attached.
I would also like to replace the footwell carpets as whilst the existing ones are in very good order, the cut out for where the throttle pedal is obviously in the wrong place. Can anyone recommend a suitable specialist who can make these up for me?

Many thanks
Graeme

I cannot be certain, but they look like part of the wiper linkage to me

For carpets, you can try SNGB or DM or from a specialist Coverdale Carpets seem to offer good service with a choice of specifications to suit both taste and pocket

Edit : I haven't actually been out to look at my cars, but I don't recall any cutout for the accelerator pedal being needed. have you got a non-standard pedal e.g. organ type instead of pendant ?

Graeme, the accelerator pedals are different LHD to RHD which will help explain why these look different and the lack of cut out in RHD carpets.
Have you got the SNG Barratts excellent catalogues for the E Type with all parts very clearly shown? SC Parts also have clear parts catalogues. These will help you identify parts and differences.

The throttle pedal as purchased was as per the diagram which clearly details the parts in question, so many thanks for this, Clearly no longer needed as the right hand pedal assembly is completely different.
The cut out that I refer to is in the left hand footwell carpet and was necessary to fit round the throttle pedal which is secured to the floorpan. This is now redundant and so the carpet needs to be replaced.

My car appears to be in great shape, I'm trying to trace the history but it was originally cream with black interior, now BRG/biscuit which I have to say I really like. It was apparently subject to a full and comprehensive restoration approximately 20 years ago which does seem to bear out as all nuts and bolts undo very easily and there appears to be no corrosion on the car. The car was repatriated from New York in October 2018 and I purchased it in March of this year. I'm not sure if it has spent its life on the east coast as it really does seem to be in very good order suggesting that it may have been mainly located in one of the dry states perhaps.
My plan is to complete the rhd conversion and tidy up the bonnet which whilst in great order does have some microblistering so it needs stripping back and re spraying. After that I'd just like to enjoy it for the summer. Ideally, I'd like to have the rest of the car re sprayed at the same time as I suspect the match wont be perfect but I'd really like to remove the screen, wipers/jets to do the job properly. However, from what I can see, this looks to be a horrible job so it may have to wait for another day.
I have always dreamt of owning an E Type and still cant quite believe that I have one in my garage; what a car!!!
I do have one other job planned which is to replace the door glass on both sides with some really good second hand items that I purchased at the spares day in Stoneleigh recently; any tips on replacing these??

Thanks for all your help and I look forward to sharing many more posts no doubt in the future
Graeme

Graeme

There is a guide on LHD/RHD conversion in the Forum Knowledge Base which you might find useful.
