Post by Allrand » Sun Jul 11, 2021 2:33 pm

Hi all,

Having posted this in the wrong place previously, is there someone out there who can help with the dimensions of the tool roll and jack bag?

Hello,
The tool roll for the Jaguar E-type 1961-1968 measured:
21” x 10 3/4” w/top flap closed, 18” w/flap open, 12” strap, 14 lower pockets

The jack container for the jack for the Jaguar E-type 1962-1970 measured:
27" long w/top flap open, 20" with flap closed, 11 1/2" wide top edge of open flap, (2) 20" tie-straps

Send me a private note for more details that you should have before attempting to replicate these two items.

Hi Bud,
Thank you very much. There are many pictures available but no sizes. I'll draw it out & check with you again.

Hello, Randall -

I just checked with Roger Payne in Australia -- he's the world's expert on vintage classic tools and associated materials. One measurement in his articles on jack bags was missing.
- He replied that the bottom of the bag is 7" wide, noting that corners are slightly curved where edging tape goes around.
Regards, Bud

Worth noting that Great Britain used imperial measurements during the time of E-Type production and as you will see from Bud's measurements they are nice whole number of inches or simple fractions to make production easy. If you are going to use the measurements provided in the photos you should convert the metric to inches and, again, round up or down to the nearest whole inch or simple fraction. If you are in metricville convert the inches to cm and do not round up or down. This applies to pretty much everything on the E-Type!

Many thanks guys, this helps a lot. Is the edge binding to the tool roll the same type of edging tape as the jack bag?

We had a new S1 tool roll made up as part of our car's re-trim. The Trim shop replicated this from our original tool roll (which was in poor condition). It is a complex job. For the tools to fit properly, there are many measurements to be taken given the compartments are different sizes plus the small pouch at the top left hand corner for the feeler gauge etc.
