Hi. would it be a good idear to put a thin smear of silicon grease around my new diaphragm, I have had to clean of a lot of old silt from the faces ,any input would be helpfull. Thanks Gordon.

I don't know what you're thinking of using but certainly RTV silicone and fuel are incompatible. It swells up and I had to clear two big blobs of it out of the fuel pump banjos on the D-type at the weekend. Some fool had obviously used it around there and it ended up blocking the fuel flow.

Read what it says about fuel compatibility for your grease on the container. I doubt you should use anything whatsoever. There are some poor quality fuel-related parts out there but if you bought decent stuff it doesn't need protecting from anything, though you might want to sort out your filtering if there is silt getting through.
