#1 Oil Cleaner

Post by I-Wen Foo » Thu May 12, 2011 3:56 pm

Hi,
I have an original oil cleaner assembly on my 3.8l engine - can someone tell me what the correct finish is for the cannister? Mine is currently chrome plated, but I'm not sure if it's correct. Not so easy to spot this on XKEdata photos or in the originality books...
Thanks for the replies, I-Wen.

Hello I-Wen,

Before blasting my cannister was painted black.

Regards, Willys

Not got one as I changed to a spin off filter but I think it should be metallic green 'hammer' finish.

I think I will go with black hammerite seeing as it's a 1962 car (no. 860762), so being on the early side.

Thanks guys!

Seems reasonable. My car was built in late 64 so possibly the colour changed with the start if the 4.2 s or perhaps a later owner changed mine.
