I'm reassembling my bonnet after stripping and refurbishing.
Does anyone know what the oblong brackets do which are sandwiched between centre panel and the air box, mid way.

According to Chuck Hadley at Monocoque Metalworks --
This is a pair of filler panels that mount between the inner bonnet valances (air ducts, inner fenders, etc.) and the flat headlamp diaphragm panel. These fill in a small approx. 2x4-inch space above the air tube where the valance meets with the headlamp diaphragms. Most people don't even realize these are up in there until they disassemble the bonnet and find these - usually badly rusted from years of road grime and salt, etc. When installed, they have small 1/2-inch strips of felt pop-riveted to the top and bottom edges.

Many thanks for the input. This was one item I failed to photograph when I pulled the bonnet apart.
On one end of the bracket It's sandwiched between inner flange of the diaphram and the diaphram itself and then bolted under the airbox on the other end of the channel.

Mine half dismounted (photo #2)
and reassembled in position (photo #1).
Note the foam seam on top and bottom.
