#1 Trace a car?

Post by club3999 » Mon Jan 23, 2012 8:52 pm

As something of a newbie to this forum I would appreciate some advice as to the best way to help a friend of mine try and trace his father's car.
The car is a 1963 FHC. He has already contacted the DVLA but the trail seems to go cold after 1993 and it seems that they won't release the address of the last known keeper even though they have supplied his name.
I'm none to sure of the correct etiquette on this but he is happy to offer some sort of reward for any information leading to the car's discovery.
Any pointers on this would be greatly appreciated. Is it OK to post all the details he does have thus far?

Your best bet is to write to the Jaguar Enthusiasts' Club with the details . They run a "where's that car" column in the magazine, not every month but pretty frequently . If someone remembers the car, or if the present owner reads it, you may get some information. The DVLA certainly will tell you nothing more, and I am surprised that they have even given the name of the currently registered keeper . You can also try looking on the XKE data website, although unless you have a chassis no. that is a bit unlikely to find the car. It is also worth putting what you know on this site - someone may just know the car!

Any pointers on this would be greatly appreciated.
If you know the registration number of the car, then check here for free to see if its got road tax and still on the road..
https://www.taxdisc.direct.gov.uk/EvlPo ... ution=e1s2

Then check here to see if it is currently insured..
http://ownvehicle.askmid.com/

if you know the current owners name, but not his address, try here,
http://www.192.com/people/?gkw=locate+someone

once you have the possible address`es of matched names, take your man for a walk to see if the house matches an E type owner
http://maps.google.co.uk/

if you post the REG number, i can check my past jd books for the last owner details (if listed). hope this maybe of help.

Mine was off the road in a garage from 1981 until restoration in 2006.

Appreciate any info on CDC 843C.

Thank you mystery type.

The reg no is 541 GBL and according to a MID website search the car is currently insured, though the DVLA vehicle enquiry site category 'Date of Liability' is stated as 01 08 1995. This info suggests the car is still in existence, perhaps as a (very) long restoration project or possibly is now a race car. The car appears on the 'ownlistseries1' database and the build date is shown as July '63 and the 'owner of the record' is noted as 'Jag Drivers UK'. I'm not sure quite how but my friend who is trying to trace his father's car believes that the car was registered in 1993 to K J Avers who lived in the Reading area or thereabouts.

Cheers

GF

"appreciate any info on CDC 843C"

sorry nothing found for this car.
.................

541 GBL is listed in 2006 and 2011 editions of jaguar E type register, but sadly no owners details, and little info..
year 1963
colour. opal dark blue
chassis no. 861242

as the register is from the jaguar drivers club, try sending them an email.

Thanks for your post today Mystery Type - much appreciated.

Although no owner details as such have turned up yet the little snippets of info such as you have provided are encouraging!

I've written to the JDC as suggested and also to the JEC mag re a mention in their 'Where's that Jag' pages.

Cheers
