Everything looks very original. Even the U/J's are mark LOBRO.

My most recent recollection of fitting a u/j (it was the steering column) was to carefully remove two journal cups, fit the assembly into the yoke and press the cups back in before securing with the circlips. Would that give you more room to fit them. Can you post some pictures please - instructions here: http://etypeuk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1666

I've taken a picture comparing both the old and new. This is the comparison picture. As you can see the inner diameter of the old U/J is considerably smaller than the new version and this is what is preventing the new U/J being inserted in to the yoke.

Ahh - I see what you mean. What are the measurements of 'L' & 'D' on each?
