Horn intermittent

I wonder if anyone can assist. I needed to remove the steering wheel to polish it. To remove the steering wheel but, I needed to pull out the long brass rod that activates the horn.

When I have replaced it, I sometimes just hear the click but no horn, but sometimes it works.

I didn't think I had done anything, but appear to have!

If you hear the click it is the relay so the horn button and associated connections are working. Problem lies between the relay and horns.

That's quite odd given that the problem didn't start until I removed that brass rod.

Anyway, a dumb question, but given I'm new to getting my hands dirty, I will find the horn, and look back to relay. What's the relay look like and then what problems should I look for?

Should a silver box with spade connectors located on the nearside mudguard adjacent to the battery. To test it switch on the ignition and use a jumper wire from earth to terminal W2. It should click and sound the horns. If it clicks with no horns the fault lies with the horn wiring. If it does not click check the fuses - you should have 12v on W1 (green).



Fastest way to check the electrics is to make yourself up a test bulb. Get a spare 12v single filament side or flasher bulb and solder two wires to centre terminal and case. Insulate it with heat shrink or tape. Terminate the wires with crocodile clips. This works better than a test meter because because you can see it light up even if you are in the drivers seat and the bulb is connected in the engine compartment.
