Hood Cover

I would like to tidy up the appearance of my 1962 "E" when the hood is in the 'down' position. Does anyone know of a firm that can supply a suitable cover? How would it be best secured?
Answers and details of your experiences will be much appreciated.

Your existing hood should have the press-studs around the bottom outside, and both the hood and tonneu covers just pop onto those.

The closest place for you is BAS in Cwmbran. They supply in just about any material in kit form for you to fit or you can take your car there and they will fit it for you...it's a pretty easy job to do.

The hood cover is first secured by two tenax fastners on the hardtop brackets:


The edges are push fitted to the body work:


The cover finally pulled tight and clipped over the four rear chrome hooks.


There will be two (or three on early cars) straps at the front with press studs secured on the rear bulkhead.



There is some uncertainty as to the material Jaguar used for the hood covers. It seems many were made of cloth remnants from the hood whilst others were vinyl. Both are correct but if you are having one made make sure you opt for cloth (mohair) as the vinyl ones sag, get very hot in the sun and make a lot of noise at speed. As Mark says BAS along with Suffolk & Turley, MCT and John Skinner can easily supply one.

Worth while getting a hood cover as it stops the hood frame and latches rattling at speed. If your car is fitted with seat belts the cover should have two T shaped cutouts and a pop fastener to allow the webbing to pass through without snagging the cover.

The picture shows the hood not quite down, but obviously unlike the original. It looks as if I will have to have on specially made. I have located a trimmer at Leckhampton, near Cheltenham, who should be able to do the job. I will keep you posted (as they say).

You seem to need the four chrome clips that fit to the rear trim rail - SNG sell them. The hood will sit a lot lower than in your picture - give it a good push! Am I missing something - why is your hood "unlike the original"?

You also do not have the hood held down using the leather straps. That will force it into the correct closed position (providing the receiving studs are in the right place on the rear bulkhead).
