#1 Moss gearbox e-type vs MK2 3.8

Post by fredmec00@hotmail.com » Sat Mar 28, 2015 7:17 am

Hi Gents,

Could someone confirm the moss gearbox from an MK2 3.8 fits an early e-type, Series 1 + moss transmission?

Thanks in advance for the support,
Fred

Hello Fred . If you are fitting the whole box - it won't go in due to the longer tailshaft housing or overdrive. The E-type gearbox is much shorter. The gears main casing and bell housing are the same though.

Barrie,

I already have the moss gearbox, just need the bellhousing. But the person probiding the housing is unsure if it was from an e-type or MK2.

The only thing he knows is that it came from a 3.8

So from you previous message, I understand the housing is the same and the only difference is the gearbox?

Cheers,
Fred

The bellhousing from any 3.4/ 3.8 will fit provided it was for the Moss box and not for the later ( 1966 on ) all-synchro transmission . What you cannot do is mix a 4.2 housing with a 3.8 engine or gearbox without changing the flywheel and starter motor as well
