#1 AGS605 vs BS3628 Cheney clamps

Post by gsv » Fri Oct 16, 2015 8:54 pm

Hello. When did jaguar switch from or perhaps more correctly when did Cheney switch from AGS standard to BS. I believe it was late 63. My 62 has original AGS clamps. What say the experts?

BS3628 "Specification for hose clips (worm drive type) for general purpose use" was issued on 31 March 1963. So Cheney clips marked BS3628 would be later than that date, how long after would depend on when Cheney signed up to the BSI spec (it was not compulsory), how long it took to re-tool and how long it took the BS marked clips to enter the supply line. AGS is an aeronautical standard managed by Society of British Aircraft Constructors, known as SBAC, the UK's national trade association representing companies supplying civil air transport, aerospace defence, homeland security and space. It is now managed by ASD Standards Organisation. AGS-605-012 "Clip ? Hose (Type J) Assembly" is sill in valid, in its twelfth edition. So BS3628 clips should be on cars produced after March 1963, AGS.605 clips can be on any car as they were made and supplied to the aero industry until Cheney ceased production in 1999.

The Cheney clip was patented in 1944 with a couple of improvements is 1952 and 1956.
