#1 What are these clips for in my boot. 1962 Series I FHC

Post by manyc » Mon Nov 09, 2015 7:26 pm

My E-type FHC was built on Oct 15, 1962 and is body #: V4150 & Chassis #: 887190. Attached to the reenforcement in the boot floor were 2 clips.

shown here:

here they are removed from the car next to the reproduction Shelley Jack Rod clips from RM & J Smith Ltd:
http://www.jag-lovers.org/v.htm?1447091338

Initially I thought that they were for the Shelley jack rod, but they are too small compared to the repos and from what I've read the Shelley jacks were discontinued by mid-June 1962 at

850548/9
860660/1
877518/9
886246/7

I have no reason to believe that they were not installed at the factory. So if they are not for the Shelley jack, what are they for ?

They are clips for the Shelley jack rod. The current ones are just generic items that do the job so don't give them too much credibility. Even though your car is notionally later than the end of Shelley jacks the message probably did not reach the shop floor!

#3 jack clips

I'm, not sure whether I'm happier that I need to find a Shelley jack or the fact that I don't need to find a Metalifacture jack with an intergrated handle.
