"One of the 4972 ever made and can only be used on cars produced from March 1961 until June 1962." Is that a new law or something. It could be used on any S1 or S2 car other than the 2+2 although personally i would never use one - that bullet shaped head could very easily pierce the cill

It should also be dated! Richard Smith can sell you one of his re-manufactured versions from the original tooling.

Not complaining about the price but the "restoration" is awful! Just showered paint over the whole thing.

And somehow the bottom of the jack with the spindles / screws look altered. But it seems that this is an original jack. So if you want an original one.... he is open for offers. So maybe there is a bit of room for negotiations?!

And I have learnt that it is all about originality?! ;=) Especially with the early cars....

To provide some kind of past reference, I know someone who paid ?500 3 years ago and I paid ?650 two years ago and that took me a few days to commit while I adjusted my mind set!

It may be 'used' but that is a repro jack .

Hello

I don`t think this one is a reproduction. The ones from SNG Barratt USA advertised on eBay is a repro and BIN price is 1280.

However this one at 2500 is way too expensive but is advertised with best offer.

Its not dissimilar to the prices now being asked for tool kits and scissor jacks . Frankly its ridiculous. Apart from anything else we have them covered up under the rear deck and nobody sees them. If you sell the car it DOESNT add to the value. If we have a dinner party and take our guests into the garage ( yes i have pulled this stunt after the third bottle of red infuriater) and offer to show the assembled crowd our "original tool kit with Metalastic ( or whatever its called) jack, then that just confirms what they all thought anyway...that you are completely bonkers. The only salvation is that Golfers are worse!

Keep you money in your pockets and let the market cool down. There at least as many tool kits and jacks made as cars and probably rather more. Everything comes to he who waits as my old man tells me.

Oh and I just bought a car with a series one early attached handle jack in the boot!

Yes it is repro - the manufacturer of it has identified his work - best keep your money safe I would say.

Andrew - I don't know what one can call it - bonkers? the way it is? challenging? stupid? or that feeling that its a must have or not!

Personally I would like to eventually have my car complete as it would have been when new - I just hope I can pick up those missing items as and when and at a price I can feel OK about - but we are a bunch of enthusiasts.

The ?250k e types on offer, must be attracting investors and as such a 2 or 3 k tool kit, 1 or 2k jack and 1k manual etc is not really that much as a percentage and certainly not when compared to the world of Ferrari items.
