If it helps, I had the front seats on my 240 Jaguar re-upholstered by Aldridge and would be very happy to recommend them - it was not in leather though - their version of Ambla, as per the original. Quite a number of people have said the fit of the upholstery is extremely good.

I was less happy with the carpet set, which was from a different supplier on the list above.... Should have kept with Aldridge to do the carpet as well!

mine was retrimmed by the best imho! but then we all have our favourites Mick Turley ,who has trimmed quite a number of Pebble Beach winners and works for one of the Ultimate Jaguar restorers in the country.

Beautiful job! That retrim says it all. Now, who is the best? Mick Turley or Eric Suffolk?
Choosing the leather and material is one thing, but choosing the best trimmer is the most important because they will advise you on the best material! BAS and Skinner are ok,but if you want the ultimate concours finish, then the two above take a lot of beating. Plus Daniel at NFC.

i don't know Daniel at NFC, although I did spot one or two incorrect items on their cars at their stand at Goodwood. Little things, like the incorrect grain of material on the speedo and glovebox panels. and colour coded side panels in the boot rather than the tan/beige/biscuit that is correct. I do not know Eric but Mick will be doing two more cars for me.

Eric Sufflok is the owner of Suffolk and Turley, and Mick, who was with Eric, went on his own to form MCT Jaguar Restorations, as you know. Interesting what you said about NFC. I have to say, despite the comments you made, and bear in mind the car at Goodwood was customers car, their restorations are better than any others I have seen. At ?25k a pop, they should be. Eagle talked to them about sub contracting work to them. Eagle, that is a topic all on its own! Rip off comes to mind!

are you saying they charge ?25,000 to restore a car or the interior? If the answer is either of those two they won't be in business for much longer!

Wish I had pockets that deep! My car will be a driver not a concours queen, so I'm not going the money no object pebble beach route. The car has been vinyl re trimmed in the past and so needs a little TLC

I'm going to be doing most of this myself. I'm looking to buy:

A carpet set
A centre consol kit
Door cards.
Odds and ends
and to have some MX5 seats re done in leather. I'm thinking of using Georges recommendation for the seats MA Carstyle in Germany. Perhaps if I get the Vaumol / get them to supply enough leather for the door trims etc.

Leather on the door cards is wrong. It should be vinyl. If you use Vaumol, you will find the leather too thick as they fold it around the edges. Vaumol is original but bear in mind it is not the premier leather! It is period correct though.

The MX5 seats mean that originality is out of the window. The Germans use leather on doors alot and it looks nice.

Hello- First post here. My father has a 1971 2+2. He rebuilt the engine and suspension and swapped in a 6-speed manual. Beautiful machine. Now he wants to do the interior. Should he get an upholstery kit or have the interior custom made? I found the kits by Skinner, BAS, Suffolk and Turley, Muncie, etc. Just not sure which way to go on this.
