Can anybody help with separating the radius arm from the wishbone in a Series 1 FHC.?
The problem is that the bolt is recessed into the wishbone and is round and not hexagonal. The bolt is just too long to get the nut off before it fouls against the lug which holds the shock absorber. The bolt is jammed solid and will not move at all. Have tried to tap it out with a hammer, encourage it with a crowbar, heated it up and soaked it in WD 40,tried various pullers, but it just smiles and refuses to cooperate at all.
I,ve researched 3 manuals and the SNG parts manual. They all show it as just a simple nut and bolt that is not even recessed into the wishbone.!
Very grateful for any ideas.

Hi Charles...if the bolt is stuck solid you will procably find it easier to slip a hacksaw blade in between the radius arm the mounting lugs and cut it out....

From memory there are several iterations of this bolt including the recessed one you have.
One trick that may work is to place a spacer (like another nut) between the top of the nut and the shocker lug. Then attempt to undo the nut. Because the spacer prevents the nut from moving up the bolt head it may push the bolt out for you.
Otherwise you'll have to drill the bolt out.

If there's enough space to weld a washer on edge to the head of the bolt, you might be able to hook up a slide hammer and break it free. A little risky as you don't want to weld the bolt to wishbone... Could also try drilling a hole into the bolt, then tap the hole, screw in an eye bolt, and then do the slide hammer routine. (WD40 is not the best penetrant for this application).

Charles, I have just suffered last week-end the same experience, but did not admit defeat: drilled a 4mm hole through radius arm bush enough to reach the bolt and spayed WD40 and let it soak a couple of hours while having a drink. After that, with a spacer fitted between the nut and the shock mount, it came out nice and easy.
Good luck!
Good luck!

Am I missing the point here? The bolt will only come out if you have taken the lower outer fulcrum shaft out and lifted the hub up and away? I have also just done this job on a 4.2 series 1 and the hex bolt is fully recessed in the wishbone. you cannot remove the radius arm without doing the above.
